Conservation Tips

The Ogallala Aquifer, stretching beneath the Panhandle, is one of the world's largest underground water sources here in Texas. But for decades, Texas farmers have pumped water from it to irrigatevast fields of cotton, corn and wheat. Leaving water levels in the aquifer more than 100 feet lower, forcing wells to run dry. In Central Texas rapid urban growth adds even more strain to water supplies as cities compete with farms for dwindling water supplies. While some rural communties are already facing running out of water entirely, and the race to adapt is growing more each year. The groundwater crisis is testing limits and the State is encouraging water- saving use. Also with hotter weather the surface water from time to time is in danger.

1) Making sure your faucets are turned off all the way. Saves water and money in your pocket.

2) Pouring a package of Kool-Aid mix into your toilet tank and allowing it to sit for 20 minutes without flushing could also save water and money in your pocket. If the dye from the Kool-Aid mix makes it to the bowl without flushing you need to change the flap in your tank.

3) Saving rinse water from your dishes can be used to water your plants.

4) Get the most from your automatic water sprinklers by watering early mornings or late in the evenings.

5) Those of you who are watering Cattle or Horses. Please check your automatic water float periodically to make sure the float does not hanging.
